How can YOU help bring changes to the Philippines?
In this series of short articles, the question “How are you going to help President Aquino bring changes to the Philippines?” was posed to Filipinos of all backgrounds and walks of life all over the Philippines. Here are the answers they gave. This is a multi-part series.
“Roughly 88 percent of adult Filipinos trust President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III even though only 14 percent believe he can fulfill all of his campaign promises, the latest Social Weather Stations survey said.”
President Ninoy Aquino’s personality and dignity gave these people (88 percent of adult Filipinos) enough confidence to trust in him undoubtedly. Definitely, numbers prove how charismatic our president is. Yet, beyond this charisma and determination to change the Philippines , is it enough for us to lay bask and slack off and let him do his job together with his colleagues?
Somehow, success comes with teamwork and cooperation. It was the “ US ”, not the “I” that creates positive results in a lot of things. We ought to let ourselves be involved in some of the issues that get through us. Needless to say that all of us are hoping for a brighter future. It was indeed our duty to work hand-in-hand with those people whom we had voted. “WE” means the majority regardless whether our bet failed. How can we help this government then?
As an individual, we have to be aware about the needs of our society. We are the foundation of every society. We have the power to change it as it change, the whole community, then the country, gets benefited. This is true enough especially if we see small problem that we can solve ourselves.
One good example is about our waste management. I remember what I had watched in a Korean channel about their way of waste management. They continuously educate their people about the bad effects of garbage thrown just anywhere and the diseases it might cause. The result is that almost all household disseminate bio and non- biodegradable garbage. This might look so small but seriously, it could help. Instead of using the media to advertise products and programs, why not give some space for these kinds of advocacy?
Also, nowadays, a lot of Filipinos are becoming wary about the surroundings. Thanks to the news programs of some Filipino channels here that allow typical individual to be an eye in every part of the country. This is a big help. Because of these new strategies, crimes could be lesser and criminals could be caught faster. As a Filipino, we should join these kinds of activity since all of us want protection.
There are a lot of ways how to help not just Pnoy but also the whole country. I believe being educated is a big help to do so that is the reason why I seriously advocate high-quality education in every person that I meet since the result can be so effective in the future.

The current term. under President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino Jr, is the most hopeful condition in this country. Knowing that his charisma to the masses has effectively brought him to his position today. The united votes of the people is the strongest weapon we have against corruption, illegal acts and inhumane doings in our country.
But what can we do to help Pnoy reform our country?
At the personal level, we can be his sentinel at the same time his boss. Sentinel, by safeguarding our personal and other people’s rights and welfare. We may report illegal acts and protect our fellow citizen against repression and its other forms. Especially, with what PNoy have had just reported to us about the over and mis- spending of the previous term, we are put to a scenario of protecting the wealth of the state. We can help PNoy by active participation and obedience to his projects and decrees, respectively.
As his boss, we must also actively participate in voicing out what we really experience under his administration as a basis for his acts and moves for the country. By trying to convene same condition may be brought out not as n issue but a solution to the current situation of our country. With the use of technology and other communication device, we can voice out and convene what we think is the real condition of our country for the proper reform what our country really need.

PNoy cannot reform Philippines alone. Each citizen of this country should do his part in order that this vision can be attained. On my part, I will support PNoy’s projects and use my skills in order to help PNoy improve the current situation in the Philippines.
I hope that by supporting PNoy’s projects instead of criticizing it could somehow, set an example to other members of the community. Most Filipinos are reluctant in following in cooperating with the government because of what the previous administration had done, or they want the government to do the entire job of pushing the Philippines to progress. However, this kind of attitude would get the Philippines nowhere. I am optimistic that if I can show my fellow Filipinos that PNoy’s projects are relevant for our country’s development then they might be more cooperative to PNoy.
Filipino’s are gifted people but more often than not, these talents are wasted on futile exercises. PNoy is working hard so that each citizen would be given a chance to improve himself in this country. This is the reason why instead of going abroad, I would prefer staying in the Philippines. The salary might not compensate my skills but the honor of serving with a president with good moral foundation and a strong vision for the Philippines is enough for me.

As a student, I can Help PNOY reform the Philippines by studying well and doing my duty as a student. I have to prepare myself so good in order for me to be ready when the time comes for me to serve the country. Also as a citizen, I must abide be able to abide the rules without exception (except for life and death instances) for he himself does not include himself to an exception. I would encourage my fellows to be optimistic about their views on the Philippines because we still have hope to get out from this seemed-to-be stagnant crisis – not to mention specific type of crisis for we experience a variety that was left to us by the past administrations.
We should not expect PNOY to revive the country by a flash. We were left in chaos and its now the challenge for him that we need him and he is our new hope. He in turn, needs us to help him hand in hand because we are all equal by means of rights and privileges of this country. Discrimination should be an attitude to be at trash for this country is a better place if everybody would stand for it. After all, if you look at it, it’s more of our self discipline.

To begin with, change always starts with the self. In order for me to be able to help the president, I must first start with myself. I’m unemployed for the meantime so if I want to help the country, I must find myself a job. Depends on the kind of job I want, may it be the regular 8 hour job or a homebased job, all can help the Philippine economy and at least I can lessen the country’s unemployment rate. Secondly, improve my lifestyle, starting the influence from my home extending towards my relatives and friends. In this way I will not be a bad example or a bad influence to the others and they eventually would adapt my way of living. The simple things that one can do already means a lot because if affects people. Even though I can’t directly help Pnoy reform the Philippines, I, in my own way, do the best I can to help even in the littlest things that I can do. Thinking positively can help as well, because what this country needs is not some negative thinking of hopelessness, but people who can hope that someday soon our country will overcome all these problems. With this way of thinking, setting aside crab mentality, greed, envy and selfishness, hopefully people will be able to help reform this country.

One of the thing that I find most disconcerting about Filipino culture is the absolute disinterest in the well-being of those outside the family. There is little in the way of “sense of community” in this country. On the other hand, a family member may act in the most dishonorable manner without reprimand or consequence. The culture of corruption that has plagued this country finds its foundation in such a philosophy. Few in public service or in the seats of corporate power seem to have any real interest in anything beyond the opportunity to plunder, pilfer and line their pockets despite all pretense of aspiration directed to the betterment of the public condition. As the Asian economies’ exponential emergence continues to unfold, the Philippines remains the “sick man of Asia” and victim of its own selfish crablike mentality.
